I was under the impression that the performance task was ACTUALLY due on this Friday, the 23rd, so I made my whole video for my book "How to Read a Film" in 6 hours yesterday. My original idea for the video was to showcase two different scenes and how various filming, editing, and sound techniques could improve a scene entirely. The video was to show how film can display emotion and artistry, much like a piece of music or literature, and how the audience's experience can be changed depending on how the scene is played out.
Since I had to kind of rush with the video, I can definitely improve in some parts. There are a few errors here and there when it comes to presentation and I recall that I used "discomfortable" instead of "uncomfortable". Also I feel like I act a tad bit pretentious in this version of the performance task, so I'm going to go back and reword some of the lines to make things better. Throughout the next week I can read more into my book and start working on the text component of the performance task. I had a blast making this video in such a short amount of time and I can't wait to go back and tweak some things to make the video better.

Boy was I shocked when I opened my Amazon package that had my book inside. As mentioned in the previous post, I'm reading "How to Read a Film", but I really wasn't expecting the book to be that long. Damn thing is like 600 pages, I legit thought it would be something around 200 pages. Since the book is about reading film, there's quite a bit of pictures so its not 600 big ass pages of just text. Thank God.
So when I pulled that sucker out of the box, I knew I was paddlin' up poop creak. I got through a good chunk of the first chapter, named "Film as Art" that defines what art is and how film became a form of art relatively recently. The chapter (so far) was somewhat boring due to how certain uninteresting topics drag on for too long, like about the extensive family heritage of "fine arts", but for the most part I was intrigued. Once the chapter actually started talking about film, then I was hooked. Getting through this book is really going to be a challenge. I've read big books like that in the past for APES but I had a whole summer to read those. I suppose I just have to stay consistent with it. The book that I'm going to be reading first is How to Read Film: Movies, Media, and Beyond, but I have yet to receive the book in the mail so this first blog post will be sort of an introduction of sorts. I chose How to Read Film because of the fact that I am very much into film studies and film analysis, so I instantly thought that How to Read Film would really be a gnarly book. I was really getting into that Cutting Edge documentary as well as the little bits of information that we learned throughout the class about mise-en-scene made me really interested to get involved with Media Theory. Even though these last few days in school have been actually pretty interesting regarding genders, I feel like I should stick with How to Read Film. I am very excited to get started.
